Speaking Truth To Power

In practice, Broken Windows encourages police to harass, racially profile, entrap, and punitively arrest citizens of a certain demographic in selected areas. For decades the NYPD has used Broken Windows as an aggressive, zero-tolerance police tactic towards people of color, homeless people, immigrants, subway performers, the working poor, and street vendors. And yet no criminology research has proven that crime rate declines in the past two decades have a causal link to Broken Windows.

Confronting NYPD & Council

Coalition activists demonstrate outside City Hall and confront NYPD Police Commissioner O'Neill and several Councilmembers -- demanding they put an end Broken Windows policing.
